Do You Remember When? // Fashion Film

It has been a long time vision of mine to film a fashion film and today I’m debuting my first one to you titled, “Do You Remember When?”

For the longest time, I kept making excuses as to why I couldn’t do it, but I managed to find a direction and now I’m never look back. Let this be a sign for you that today’s the day to take the leap in making your dreams come true.

Now onto the good stuff, who doesn’t love behind the scenes scoop?

Today I’m giving you behind the scenes scoop of the fall fashion film I filmed and edited featuring my friend, Tara Efobi.

Filming this lookbook was so fun and everything went smoothly, it was a beautiful day and we managed to capture some gorgeous shots during the golden hour (stay tuned for pictures).

Finding the model:

One of my biggest struggles was finding someone to model who understood the concept and movement of a lookbook and wasn’t shy in front of the camera. I was on my Instagram’s explore page and came across a “Meet the Team” post from the Revival Magazine at my school.

The post featured Tara and I remembered her from one of my classes. One of her facts was that she did YouTube, so watched a few of her videos and thought she would be great. I send her an email and now we have a look-book!

About the model:

Tara Efobi is a 20-year-old fashion design student at Iowa State. She has her own YouTube channel that you should definitely check out if you like fashion, beauty and lifestyle.

3 fun facts: “My all time favorite candy is Swedish Fish. I know how to jungle, not the best but I can and I don’t like strawberries.”

Creating the story:

Whenever I listen to the song it reminds me of the past and reminiscing on who you’ve been. The lyrics lead me to imagine a compelling love story, so I wanted to capture the times that were good. The backstory of my fashion film is a women came across old footage that an old lover made for her.

Having old feelings and memories creeping up on you is something that anyone can relate to. Good or bad, they all take you back to a certain time of your life. The footage is a compilation of film shot when they would spend time together. This is what the tape contained..

Finding the song:

Songs are typically what sparks an idea for a video in my head. I’ll hear a song for the first time and it will be so magical that I’ll envision the song play out. I was struggling to find the right song and it found me when I was grocery shopping.

One day after getting off the bus I went to the store since it’s right by my house and kept my earbuds in as I was shopping then bam shuffle came through and shit hit me like a ton of bricks.

Creative direction:

I wanted it to have a vintage homemade video vibe, so used the effects offered in Final Cut Pro X. I definitely want to spend more time experimenting with color grading to enhance the storytelling in future videos.

Discovering the locations:

All the locations are within walking distance of where I live. It’s a small historic town, so there are so many cute little places. I scoped out places before hand that I thought would fit best and then went from there.

Here are some pictures from the shoot:

Thanks for reading (and watching) and stay hungry to learn, create and grow!
