How to Be Stylish

Everyone has those days where they wake up too late to do their full morning routines, which results in sub-optimizing to get out the door fast.

What you choose to wear shouldn’t be neglected, because let’s be honest it could be the difference between having a good and great day.

Plus, you never know who you might run into. It could be your crush, your ex, or worse, your frenemy (do people actually have those?) and wouldn’t it be a shame to be looking frumpy?

You’re only as cute as the last outfit people saw you in.

I completely made that up, but it’s sorta true.

Before you start panicking that there is no way you can throw together a stylish and comfortable outfit with seconds to spare, remember that you’ve came to the right place.

I’m the kind of person who will let someone I’m talking to know that they have something in their teeth, so you can trust me.

Here are 3 easy tips to get you started! Photographed by Katie Thompson

1. Have go-to items in your closet that you know you look great in

This makes throwing on clothes in a hurry more efficient because you already know potential pieces to grab for.

As you’ll see in the pictures below, I absolutely love my striped t-shirt dress from Brandy Melville. It’s the easiest to style and one of the most comfy pieces in my wardrobe.

Everyone has an item of clothing in their closet that they know looks good on them, so use them to your advantage.

Similar pieces:

Dress:Brandy Melville
Pullover: Thrifted
Shoes: Topshop
Sunglasses: Wildfox

2. Pick an item of clothing to style around

Once you have picked out an article of clothing or accessories that you want to make the star, you can easily start to narrow down items that are going to compliment it.

In my second look (pictured below) the showstoppers are definitely the leggings from Forever21. They’re from 5 years ago but are too cool to part with.

It always easier to choose a statement piece because then the rest of the pieces can be basics to keep the entire look balanced.

Similar pieces:

Sweater: Thrifted
Necklace: Free People
Leggings: Forever21
Shoes: Vans
Sunglasses: Wildfox

3. Save more time by going monochromatic

If you’re really short on time then going for a monochromatic look will allow you to quickly pull clothing that are same color and go from there.

Don’t be afraid to experiment with different hues and textures to make it interesting.
