Out of all the seasons, summer is my least favorite because it’s so hot and humid, especially in Texas that I’m forced to just throw on a shorts and a tee to avoid overheating making it hard to have a cute outfit of the day.
With this said, styling outfits in the summer serves as a challenge for me to make them exciting and worthy of a post, but as I’m cleaning out my closet I’m finding new ways to style old pieces.
Personally, I find over-the-shoulder tops a bit annoying, but I purchased this one over a year ago from Urban Outfitters to try it out and failed to find a way to feel comfortable wearing it until now.
The dark brown tones and floral pattern make it an easy piece to transition from season to season so to give it a summer flair, I paired it with a simple pair of rolled cuff denim high waist shorts.
When Chinese retail sites such as SheIn and Romwe started blowing up a few summers ago, I tested my luck and bought them because they were marketed as the same shorts sold at American Apparel.
Can you tell the difference? I can’t, the quality of the shorts are good and definitely feel like a tough denim. My only critique would be that they are slightly too big but can quickly be fixed by adding a belt.
The star of this outfit is obviously this golden yellow fleece jacket. It’s easily one of my favorite outerwear pieces in my closet and the best part is that I paid $2 for it at a Salvation Army in Iowa!
A jacket like this is perfect for outdoor summer night activities when the temperature drops but still want to wear shorts and a tee. There’s no tag inside which leads to believe that someone made this, making it one of a kind.
Working our way down to the shoes, if I could only wear one pair of shoes for the rest of my life, it would 100% be my smooth black Dr. Martens 939. They’re pretty comfortable once you break them in and they make you feel like a badass who could do some real damage in the name of self defense. Not to mention, they go with pretty much every outfit that I wear.
As for accessories, the black felt hat is from Forever 21 and the non-prescription glasses are from Shein. I love how they add another element to the overall vibe and if you want to step up the look I would opt of a nice structured brim hat that nicely sits on your head.
I can’t bring myself to spend over $20 on necklaces for the simple fact that I’ll probably misplace it, so I love to get inexpensive ones from stores like Forever21 and Urban Outfitters. For this outfit I styled it with the silver In The Stars Icon necklace from Urban Outfitters and it features moons, lightening bolts, Hamsas, and stars.
This look is the favorite one I’ve featured so far because it’s simple yet cool enough to get you featured on Nylon if you wore it to a festival.
