So, I Made a New Stop Motion

I made myself a list of summer goals and one of the tasks included was to make at least two stop motions a month. Looks like I’ve kept up my promise because I’ve managed to complete one stop motion already.

If you’re not familiar with the amount of work that goes into stop-motions then that might not seem too ambitious. Although the making of a stop motion can be a tedious activity, they’re so much fun to make because the end result can be stunning.

Hearing a song for the first time is what typically inspires me to make a stop motion. I love songs that can spark a visual story that plays on repeat in my head every time I hear it.

This one that I did was to a song called Complicated by Pia Mia, she’s an up and coming artist and she’s got killer vocals and her songs are quite catchy. One of my favorites is a cover of Drizzy Drake’s Hold On, We’re Going Home.

For this particular stop motion it took me a while to figure out the way I wanted to execute it. Listening to the song on repeat for three days, I began to envision a roller-coaster theme because of the lyrics about a complicated relationship. In addition, I wanted to have the words follow along the tracks of the coaster.

When I make stop motions I have to complete them in one sitting or else they’ll become a ghost of a creators past. This one took six hours of filming and two hours of editing and I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out.

Although, I wish I had studio lights or something so the lighting wouldn’t be so yellow, but I hope you enjoy it and feel free to leave song suggestions in the comments or on my tumblr.

Thanks for reading and stay hungry to learn, to create and to grow!
